The United State’s and Canada’s arctic policies share similar goals and concerns. The U.S. Arctic policy emphasizes environmental protection and sustainable development, with particular emphasis on the role of indigenous people and other Arctic residents as stakeholders in the Arctic. The U.S. seeks to promote the viability and socio-economic well-being of Arctic communities and supports scientific research and international cooperation in achieving these goals. Canada shares these goals with the U.S.
