The Mission
The United States has maintained an official presence in Canada since Henry Morfit was named U.S. Consular Agent at Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1827. [read more]
The Ambassador
David Jacobson was nominated by President Barack Obama to become the United States Ambassador to Canada on June 5, 2009 and was confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate on September 23, 2009. On September 25, 2009 he was sworn in at the Department of State as a U.S. Ambassador. On October 2, 2009 he presented his credentials in Ottawa and became the 22nd United States Ambassador to Canada.
The Embassy Building
The 12,819 square meter U.S. Embassy Office Building incorporates offices for Embassy departments and tenant agencies of the U.S. Government previously located in a number of buildings in Ottawa. [read more]
