21 May 2013: Ambassador Jacobson Announces Upcoming Departure

Ambassador David Jacobson will conclude his service as United States Ambassador to Canada on July 15, 2013. Following his departure and pending the appointment and arrival of a new Ambassador, Deputy Chief of Mission James D. Nealon will serve as Chargé d'Affaires, a.i.

In announcing his intention to conclude his tenure, Ambassador Jacobson said:

"I am profoundly grateful to President Barack Obama for entrusting me with the honor of serving as the United States' Ambassador to Canada, America's closest friend and neighbor. I thank Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the members of his government for their friendship and for the partnership that has enabled us to make a difference for our two countries. And I thank the Canadian people for the heartfelt welcome they have extended to me and to my family. We have experienced the kindness, the graciousness, and the generosity of spirit for which Canadians are famous. I will treasure this experience forever."
