Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Updated Information Regarding Shooting on Parliament Hill in Ottawa

    The U.S. Embassy in Ottawa informs U.S. citizens that the Embassy reopened on October 23, 2014, following yesterday's shooting on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Please be advised that some streets in the vicinity of the U.S. Embassy remain closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Follow instructions issued by the Canadian authorities and report any observed suspicious activities to the Canadian police at 613-236-1222 or 911.

Consular Fee Changes

  • Effective September 12, 2014, the Department of State will adjust processing fees for some services. The fees for most categories of immigrant visas will change, while fees for nonimmigrant visas largely remain the same. The fee for processing an application for Renunciation of U.S. Citizenship is increasing to reflect the true cost of providing this service.
