U.S. Consulate General Toronto is open on normal workdays for both customers and for telephone inquiries, from 8:15AM to 5PM. The Consulate is closed on all weekends, and Canadian and U.S. Holidays.
The American Citizen Services Section is open to the public for passport applications, report of birth abroad applications, and notarial services by appointment only.

Passport and report of birth abroad applicants must bring a pre-paid XpressPost envelope with them to the interview. These envelopes are bought from Canada Post and are not available for purchase at the Consulate. American passports and reports of birth abroad are generally delivered within 2-3 weeks of the interview.
Canadian citizens are visa exempt and may apply for most types of non-immigrant entry directly at a U.S. Port of Entry or preclearance station. Applying for a visa when one is not required is strongly discouraged.
All non-immigrant visa applicants at the U.S. Consulate General in Toronto are seen by appointment only. Appointments can be scheduled online or by calling 437-887-1448 (if calling from greater Toronto area) or 703-249-4643 (if calling from the United States). Applicants are only required to pay the necessary visa fees when scheduling an appointment.
Please note that there are no service fees or toll charges assessed for accessing the online or telephone services beyond standard applicable data and phone fees. An online visa application must be completed and required visa application fees must be paid before an appointment can be scheduled. Please note that visa application fees are non-refundable regardless of whether you keep your appointment or not or if your application is subsequently denied.

Please click here to read a general list of security procedures for U.S. Consulate Toronto. Any visitor who declines to be screened by U.S. Consulate security personnel will be prohibited from entering the Consulate.
Access to the Consulate is limited and generally only applicants are permitted to enter and be present during visa interviews. On a case-by-case basis, applicants may be accompanied by ONE non-applicant assist the applicant during the visa application process.
Please note: The Consulate has the right to refuse entry to any persons.
- Special Needs Visitors: Applicants may bring one person to assist them if they are over 80 years of age, are a minor child, or are disabled and require assistance to complete the application process.
- Interpreter: Applicants may bring one interpreter if they do not speak English well enough to participate in an interview, and consulate staff cannot interview them in their native language. A final decision as to whether or not an interpreter is needed will be made by consular staff on the day of the interview.
Due to waiting room size, the large volume of applicants and the time required to screen consular clients, persons not meeting the criteria above will not be permitted to accompany an applicant. Drivers, friends, and extra relatives, including the relatives of interpreters, must wait outside or return to meet the applicant after the interview has been completed.
Attorney: Attorneys will not be permitted to accompany clients into the waiting room or at their interviews.
